On 8thJuly Annie Hudson, Chief Executive of The College of Social Work visited Walsall and gave a presentation to around 30 practitioners from Adults and Children’s Services entitled “First class social work: building professional capability and confidence”.
The presentation is located on our WD development website.
During the event practitioners were asked to consider the following question “what gives you a sense of professional pride”? It is suggested that you reflect on this question within your team meetings/group supervision sessions.
Annie stressed:
-
The importance of the Principal Social Worker role
-
The fact that leadership and bringing on the next generation of social workers is everyone’s business
-
The importance of good quality supervision and best recording
-
The need to understand our unique role and what we ‘bring to the table’
-
The need to join up the different elements of people’s lives – looking at things through a wider lens
-
The need to celebrate and promote our positive contributions
-
The importance of reflection/analysis and standing back – what has enabled people to move on with their lives, why did we do what we did, which under-pinning model did we use, did we blend agency authority with professional authority sufficiently?
We hope to be able to invite more motivational/inspirational speakers to Walsall in future.
