Using the Mental Capacity Act this film, provided by SCIE, explains the principles of the Mental Capacity Act and how they work in practice for people who may lack capacity.  It also looks at how the Act supports everyone to plan for their future, when they may lack capacity.

Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS)

DoLS at a glance. ...  ensures that people who cannot consent to their care arrangements in a care home or hospital are protected if those arrangements deprive them of their liberty. Arrangements are assessed to check they are necessary and in the person's best interests.

Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs)

The Local Authority maintains statutory responsibility for the Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) service – the social care element of providing assessments under the Mental Health Act that consider forced admissions to hospital. To this end we identify, support, and fund staff to take on the appropriate qualification training, currently working in partnerships with the Universities. Ongoing support includes working to meet our statutory obligation to provide regular updates, refresher training, supervision and support to AMHPs.
