The Local Authority maintains responsibility for the provision of social care services to citizens of Walsall, including those with specialist mental health needs.

External Adult Social Care workforce:

Using the Mental Capacity Act this film, provided by SCIE, explains the principles of the Mental Capacity Act and how they work in practice for people who may lack capacity.  It also looks at how the Act supports everyone to plan for their future, when they may lack capacity.

 

Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS)

 

DoLS at a glance. ...  ensures that people who cannot consent to their care arrangements in a care home or hospital are protected if those arrangements deprive them of their liberty. Arrangements are assessed to check they are necessary and in the person's best interests.

Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs) 

The AMHP role was established by the Mental Health Act 2007.  Accountability for the provision of AMHP’s) remains with local authorities under section 114 of the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended by the Mental Health Act 2007).  

Since the MH Act 2007 AMHPs may only be approved by one Local Social Services Authority (LSSA) but may be authorised by other LSSAs based on that original approval.
