Health & Safety

Health & safety legislation requires that employers ensure staff are competent to carry out their role safely and receive appropriate information, instruction and training.

All employees must be given a workplace induction by their line manager which includes health & safety when they first start work. This will include any apprentices, agency workers, students, or work experience pupils.

Managers at all levels must ensure that they have the right controls in place so that staff and others are kept safe.

Walsall Council staff - Important message for managers

The Safety Management Standard (SMS) sets out, in broad terms, what managers have to do to comply with the law and our policy and standards. It also includes a checklist to help managers confirm they have systems in place.
