Interns

Everyone knows that times are tough for employers, but times are tough for graduates too and internships are an increasingly popular option. Internships help people gain employability skills that will be invaluable in their future careers.

The prime purpose of internships is to provide interns with a meaningful experience and enhance their employability prospects. There are clear benefits to running a good internship scheme, such as gaining a new and motivated member of staff, bringing new skills and perspectives to the organisation and potentially improving productivity. The quality of the experience is the most important factor for an intern, we want our future workforce to be confident, capable and have a good understanding of the work we do.

Pilot internship -  After graduating as a qualified social worker, A. struggled to find paid employment due to lack of relevant experience. A. was successful in gaining an internship established and organised by the Workforce Development team.  The Head of service and Service manager within Access assessment and care management were keen to offer a suitable placement and provide the necessary on the job support.  Workforce Development  designed a pilot scheme, accompanying documentation and organised CRB clearance. Having been with the authority for six months, A. was in a much stronger position to apply as an external candidate for a Social Work position and successfully secured a permanent post with Walsall. A. has stated that the internship programme that he undertook gave him valuable experiences which brought his studies to life and helped him gain much needed employment in his chosen area of work.  The benefit to ACM is that A. was already familiar with council policies, procedures, ways of working and so has been able to make a much earlier contribution.

Currently we have no internships available
